Awaken Coffee is a nonprofit coffee shop in Greenville that employs over 30 special-needs people to promote inclusivity and equal opportunity. The people behind the counter are what makes this heartwarming place truly special.
Providing adults who have intellectual and developmental disabilities with meaningful work in a safe atmosphere, Awaken Coffee gives them a sense of belonging. In the coffee shop, the employees can learn, grow, and have fun with fellow employees and customers.
The coffee beans come from Haerfest Coffee Roasting Company, which provides fair-trade, organic coffee beans from Colombia, Guatemala, Kenya, Ethiopia, and more.
The Awaken Coffee Collection is roasted specifically for the shop and cannot be purchased elsewhere. Along with providing excellent coffee, Haerfest has a similar mission in that they employ special needs adults.
